Maria Rice
Pronouns
To acknowledge that assumptions about someone’s gender identity could be incorrect, many organizations, including NC State, have begun to encourage community members to include a brief statement of their gender pronouns as they introduce themselves within a group.

Shout-outs From My Colleagues
Shout-outs are kind words from Libraries staff to other Libraries staff for going out of their way to be extra awesome at their job.
Maria makes life as a supervisor easier. She answers questions quickly and thoroughly, makes (many!) fixes to errors in timesheets and is always a kind and reassuring presence. She does all of this in response to panicked emails or chats, but also does heavy front-loading work to make sure supervisors have what they need with events like the Supervisor Unconference and making well-documented processes available on Confluence. Thank you, Maria!

Managing the SHRA annual appraisal process is no small feat, but Maria always handles it like an absolute pro. With her unmatched determination, she again this year took on the monumental task of emailing, tracking, and gently (but persistently!) working with Libraries' supervisors to keep things moving. Thank you, Maria, for your incredible patience, hard work, and for keeping us all on track!
— Laura Blessing
A huge shout-out to the members of our Student Assistant Program Committee! Among other initiatives, they have coordinated incredible professional development events aimed at supporting the development of our student assistants—including a career panel of librarians who engaged students in exploring potential careers in libraries, and an alumni event where former Libraries student assistants returned to share how their experiences at the Libraries shaped their career trajectories post-NC State. I appreciate the truly great work that this committee put into thoughtfully designing these programs, and in considering the different ways we can continue to invest in the growth of our amazing student assistants. Thanks for all of your efforts, folks!

Shout-out to Maria Rice for helping to develop and launch the transformative new Student Management Workshop! This initiative helps empower supervisors of student employees with the tools, community, and confidence they need to lead with care and clarity. Your thoughtful approach is shaping a more supportive campus culture, and we’re so lucky to have your leadership. Your passion for student supervisors and commitment to student success truly shines through!

I work on improving many Human Resource related processes and procedures. I always share updates with the other Libraries Human Resources team members for their input. Maria is highly engaged in this process. She always has great suggestions and thinks about the implications. She asks the right questions to make our organization better for our employees. I appreciate her consultation on my projects. Thanks for your continued engagement, Maria!
